District Announcements
Dr. Danny Merck Named New Superintendent
We're happy to introduce Dr. Danny Merck as the new Superintendent of the School District of Pickens County. Dr. Merck comes to the position with 23 years of experience in education, most of which were spent right here in the district. Dr. Merck has served in roles including teacher, coach, principal and district administrator. For the past two years, he has been the principal of Daniel High School.
He will officially step into his new leadership role on May 1. Until then, he will work with the board of trustees and our current Superintendent, Dr. Kelly Pew, to ensure a smooth transition.

Changes To School Calendar!
The 2013-2014 School Calendar was revised for the remainder of the school year on March 24. These calendars reflect changes because of snow days. We are using all three of the snow days that were built into the calendar at the start of the year, and the remaining snow days were forgiven by the board.

Key Changes:
  • School ends on June 6.
  • Exams (except for seniors) will be from June 3-6.
  • Schools will be open on April 21, May 23 and June 6.
  • Several grading period and report card dates have shifted.

The 2014-2015 school year will start on August 19 and end on June 3, and the class of 2015 will march on May 30!

Parents will notice something new on this calendar: 1:30 p.m. dismissal days. You may also hear these referred to as Early Release days. School will dismiss early on these days for teacher training. Early Release days will be on October 7, 2014 and February 3, 2015.

What The Science?
This month, the ninth grade physical science students tried to build their own hot air balloon out of a trash bag.  The cafeteria looked like it was full of gigantic Japanese lanterns. Check it out by clicking here.

What is  "What the Science?"? 9th grade Physical Science s
tudents maintaining good grades and turning in homework consistently will be invited to "What the Science?" the last Thursday and Friday of every month. We will do something cool every month to reward these hard working 9th graders.
